This is a public service announcement…

Hey readers – some quick things I wanted to let you know about:

First off – if you’ve been emailing lately and I haven’t gotten back to you, my apologies, this last week or so has been uber busy. I’ll try to reply soon, promise. 😉

Secondly, I’m participating in The Refashioners again! In case you missed last time The Refashioners is the brainchild of the lovely Miss P (who is a thrifting and restyling queen!) who picks out a surprise garment from a charity shop and mails it to participating bloggers who then take the thrifted find and turn it into something amazing and wearable with our seamstressing skills and/or magic.

This year are some returning favorites and some new additions! I can’t wait to discover what comes in the mail and see what everyone else makes. Look for the finished projects begining in June.

*****************************

I’m planning a trip to NYC! Around Memorial Day in May. If anyone living around there or passing through wants to get together for a little meet-up, be it fabric shopping, FIT museum viewing or just lunching, let me know in the comments or shoot me an email (dixiedavis at gmail dot com). I’m seriously open to getting to know anyone and everyone I can while I’m up there! Also I know it might be tough ’cause people have jobs and all but most likely I’ll be there on weekdays rather than the weekend. Maybe a little afternoon/evening dinner and a Mood visit?

*****************************

So I’ve decided to start opening more sponsor spots on my blog. Because… well, why the heck not.

You’ve probably already noticed my sponsor section on the side bar which features an ad for a great local fashion fabric store, Fabricker, which luckily for you also has an online store. 😉

If you’re a sewing minded business or blog looking to get your name out there check out the sponsor page for details.

Then there’s this… I’ve felt compelled to talk about this random pattern for awhile but didn’t want to dedicate a whole post about what is sure to be a rant but look at this thing!
This is a tailgating party pack of fleece designed clusterf—s. I think this pattern came out in the winter catalog, you may have already seen it…

Ok, I can maybe understand a chair cover and an apron with your favorite team’s logo but a keg cozy!? A cooler cover?

And worst of all is the BEER BANDOLIER. You know, if you want to be Pancho Villa at the Cowboys game or something. How much beer do you really need to carry on your person!? If you’re wearing that wouldn’t all the beer get warm by the time you drink it? Even if you’re using it to pass beer to all your buddies in the parking lot wouldn’t the beer get hot just chillin’ on your chest like that? Who wants a luke warm Pabst?? Plus, what if you want to sit down on your fleece covered fold out chair? Wouldn’t beer cans all down your back be really uncomfortable as you are sitting?

As for the cooler cover. Yes, I could see that it technically could be functional, but it’s also kind of dumb. Whoever designed this pattern must seriously hate sports. < / rant >

And lastly, as you’ve probably learned by now Google Reader is shutting down. Anyone have a recommendation for an alternative reader? I don’t mind Bloglovin’ but I don’t love it either…

Thanks all! Happy sewing!

  • I’ve been trying out Feedly as well. It’s very similar to Google Reader and it was simple to import all of my blog subscriptions.

As for that Simplicity pattern…wtf? Seriously!! I’ve never seen that one before, thanks so much for pointing it out 🙂

  • HA!!! HAHAHAHa!! That Simplicity pattern!!? You know what I can’t really wrap my head around (besides, of course ALL OF it!) is the little ruffle on the keg cozy and cooler cover…. why the ruffle? To pretty it up? Pfft! So stupid…

  • Oh sweet mary that pattern… NYC sounds enticing but I’m gonna be so broke after Cali I may not be able to swing. it. Now, go try Feedly. It’s the shit. I don’t get Bloglovin’ – not half as flexible. I view all my sewing articles in article view, and all my design stuff in thumbnail view, my news in headline only…. you can customize everything. Takes 2 secs to switch over.

  • Hey, my office is just steps from the NY Garment District (I know, I know, feel free to hate on me all you want ;-). So, lunch or post-5pm is fine with me. Shoot me an email when you have a sense of your plans – clio[dot]phineas[at]gmail[dot]com – I’m always happy to meet up.

As for the pattern – why can’t they just design some well drafted patterns for men? Maybe with some interesting details? Really!

  • That Simplicity pattern WTF HAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH

So jealous you’re going to NY! I know I just go back but I want to go againnnnn. Let me live vicariously through you, please and thank you 🙂

  • I’ve been testing http://www.netvibes.com as my new reader – best part is that it imported all my links from google.reader it took a little to tweak it to make it function the way I wanted, and I had to actually *gasp* read the help files once or twice – but now that I’ve got it sussed out – I’m liking it.

And that beer bolero – yes, it’s stupid but it would be hilarious to give to someone as a gift.

  • I’ll jump in and join the chorus on Feedly. I started using it on my ipad a few months ago and really like being able to organize blogs and other rss things by content as I did on Google Reader. Now that Simplicity pattern – I’d really like to ask the model what he was thinking about to endure that shoot!

  • i know, you just went and your post got me very excited! if i’m ever in tennessee you’d better watch out! 😉

  • I have to say I feel really really really sorry for the model for the Simplicity pattern. All the other models are probably laughing at him.

No idea about which reader I’m going to switch to either … love Google Reader and I’ve just started using the blasted ting. Oh well, Feedly sounds interesting eh?

  • some how i missed this post, but someone told me that you are coming in town. i would LOVE to meet you in person. if it’s an evening things maybe i can pass my kids off to my hubby at the train station and meet you guys where ever. i wonder when mood closes? cant wait to meet you.
