End (or beginning) of Summer Giveaway!

*giveaway closed*

Summer is slowly coming to an end in Texas. In fact I think today we didn’t even reach 90*F, hooray!

But if you live south of the equator you’ll be breaking out the sunblock, shades and swimsuit soon.

So in honor of summer I’m having a giveaway!

The winner will receive the awesome Ginger bodysuit and separates PDF pattern from Ohhh Lulu with which you can make an awesome and flattering swimsuit along with one yard of floral swim fabric!

For most people one yard will be enough for a one piece but you could also mix it up with a solid for a color block effect.

And how freakin’ cute is this pattern? You can use techniques from my Swim Suit Sew-along but even better, Ohh Lulu did a whole sew-along especially for this pattern!

If you live in the southern hemisphere this is the perfect time to make a swim suit. If you live farther north you can make an adorable lingerie set and then make a swim suit for next year.

This giveaway is open to anyone all over the world! To enter just leave a comment and tell me if you’ve ever sewn your own swimsuit.

If I can’t easily see your email address from your profile or blog leave it in the comment so I can find you.

And be sure to check out Ohhh Lulu’s lovely shop of beautiful lingerie. They have a couple other cool patterns to check out, too.

I’ll pick a winner on Saturday, October 6th!

  • EEEE! I was so inspired by your sewalong posts, but I couldn’t get my stuff together and still haven’t. So, I’ve not sewn my own swim suit, but I want to! I would love to win this pattern and fabric combo, how wonderful!

  • The last time I sewed a swimsuit was in high school sewing class about 15 years ago, but I have been thinking lately about sewing one for a trip I have coming up in November.

  • Oooooo! What a great giveaway! I wanted to sew-a-long with the series, but I was bogged down with graduate school. 🙁 Would LOVE to win so I have no excuse not to sew my own suit! Thanks, Dixie!

  • Ohhh yes please! I would LOVE this pattern. I have made a few swimsuits before, but it’s really hard to find patterns that will accomodate boobs that aren’t pancakes. I’ve heard great things about Ohhh Lulu, so I’d love to give it a go. I’m pretty sure I would get both a swim suit and separates out of the yard

  • What an exciting giveaway! I’ve been trying to break into lingerie and swimwear sewing for some time but haven’t really ventured into those yet. Ohhh Lulu has the best designs!

  • The idea of sewing swimwear seems somewhat terrifying, but since I started following your blog I’ve been very intrigued. Plus, cute pattern and cute fabric… maybe it’s time to try!

  • This is adorable! I have sewn quite a few of my own bathing suits, but I feel like I’m still working on getting the perfect fit. I’d love to try this pattern!

  • What a great giveaway! I’ve sewn the Burdastyle Alison and then it got ruined with dye, so I’ve been longing to make another!

  • oh man, i am totally in. i took a swimsuit sewing class once and it was amazing and have vowed to only sew my swimsuits from now on. this pattern is on my must have for next summer list. whether or not i win the giveaway i will be making this suit once i loose the baby bump.

  • Ooh, fun! I’ve never sewn a swimsuit. I like the idea of making lingerie first. Maybe that would be a good warm up to making a swimsuit! Fun giveaway- thanks!

  • Adorable pattern! I had every intention of doing the swimsuit sew along with you but wasn’t able to. I haven’t sewn a bathing suit yet, but I really want to for next season.

  • What a sweet pattern! I am yet to sew my first swim suit but have wanted to since last summer. I have a feeling that this could be the summer of swimsuit actually, it’s looking (touch wood) like it’s going to be a cracker!

  • Oh Wow!! I totally want this!! I’ve never sewn a swimsuit – but I’ve sewn my own lingerie, does that count?? I love that floral fabric. Totally drooling over here. Even if I don’t win the giveaway I’m making this!!

  • It’s interesting that you can use the same pattern for swimsuits and lingerie! I love it! I sew swimsuits all the time for both myself and my daughter. They’re fun, fast and easy and a fantastic way to save money.

  • ooooh count me in! i actually started a swimsuit over the summer that i was trying to throw together in an afternoon. didn’t use a pattern and it wasn’t working out that great so i got annoyed with it and chucked it to the side… i’d definitely love to try again!

  • I’ve never sewn a bathing suit although I did follow along with your recent sewalong and hope to try to make one soon 🙂

  • I haven’t sewn a swimsuit before, but am planning to this summer (in Australia). I actaully purchased some fabric and elastic yesterday, but there was nothing as nice as your fabric at the shop I went to.

  • Please count me in too!!! Your swimsuit posts inspired me recently to try sewing one but given the weather now, it’ll be worn next year. Would love to try this pattern and thanks for the giveaway!

  • Count me in please! I haven’t made my own swimsuit, but seeing all of yours this summer was very inspiring. I’ve been admiring this pattern for a while too. Thanks!!

  • I’ve been following your swimsuit sewing and have been quite jealous… and a little bit timid about trying it myself. I would love to try this one, it’s so cute!

  • I have never sewn a swimsuit, but it’s on the horizon in my sewing journey and I could see it possibly happening next summer. This winter it’s time for my first coat. 🙂 simplybeu(at)gmail(dot)com

  • I Have never sewn my own swimsuit, however I am working on a honeymoon wardrobe- spending 5 weeks in USA and it would be nice to make the swimmers rather than buy.

  • Well, I am not in the southern hemi, but I will be vacationing in Florida in November and would love to have a new suit! I would def do the color block on this one – so slimming!

  • I’ve not yet made a swimsuit, but I have recently purchased a couple of patterns and fabric to give it a go before Summer kicks in (in New Zealand). Sadly, the best I could come up with was plain navy blue fabric, so I would love to be in the draw for this pretty floral.

  • OOoooh! I live down in Aus, and a self-made swimsuit would be a perfect thing for me to make this summer- I’m a super poor student so spending $70 buying swimwear always feels like a waste (so all of my stuff is about 4 years old… it’s SUPER attractive!!)

I tried making up my own bikini top once, without a pattern or any idea how to sew knit fabric… Needless to say, it didn’t go well. I ended up with a bikini top that looked a lot like I had tried to smush myself through a childs play tunnel and had got stuck half way through. And then just cut off both ends, put a pair of molded cups in and then gone with it…

    Not a good look.

  • super giveaway!
    Thank you!
I’ve never sewn swimisuits, but I have some fabric in my stash to try (bought on a market for a ridicolous price).

  • Love that pattern and fabric combo. Have recently started work on my first swimsuit ever and so far it seems to be going well thanks to some very helpful online tutorials!

  • I just signed up for a course in diy swimwear… and I’m head over heels for that floral fabric!!! Count me it!! The pattern is an absolute winner, and I’m only putting off buying it to see if I win here 🙂 Thanks Dixie!

  • Hello Dixie
i would be happy to sew my own swimsuit,I’ve never done it.It will be for next summer for here in France near the medditerranean sea!
    Thank you!

  • Ohh, a lovely giveaway! I only have a very boring speedo swimsuit (for physiotherapy swimming) and nothing pretty, so I should get onto that… definitely not swimsuit weather here anymore but I would totally make one for next summer!

  • Oh, what a challenge to sew a bathing suit! I’m totally up for that, need something challenging right now, so count me in.
    johhol01 at gmail dot com

  • oh oh oh pleeeeease! I have sewn my own swimsuits with mixed results (the simpler the style, the better it went) but I’m ready to kick it up a notch. and I looove this fabric!

  • I love Ohhh Lulu. I have made a swimsuit for myself, and one for my daughter this year – who wanted something with a vintage vibe (at 13). It’s awesome.

  • I love Sarah’s stuff!! I’ve never sewn my own swimsuit, but after wearing the only one I own to take my kiddies to the pool this summer, I know that I need to!

  • Although I have never made a swimsuit for myself i have made one for my niece. It was hot pink with white polka dots. I think that the pattern and the fabric are absolutly adorable and they would make a great swimsuit. Email- batresyohana@yahoo.com

  • oh how i’ve been longing to make a swimsuit for this season ! i’ve been drooling over all the supplies that i need fro months now but never seem to get around to buy them 🙂 but boy oh boy this would give me the push i need 🙂

  • I have made a swimsuit and I was quite proud of it but I am embarrassed to say I never photographed it so new resolution, since I am in the southern hemisphere and summer is definitely on it’s way here (thank you for mentioning us btw, so many blogs focused on fall/autumn at the moment, hehe, but some of us are looking towards warmer weather, yay) I will get it photographed this summer. That floral fabric is gorgeous, I would love to win and make it up with some solid colour blocking, maybe a fushia or purple to bring out those flowers 🙂

  • 4th…or 5th? Comment attempt. Lol I am persistent despite my lack of a working computer. Anyway… I have sewn two swimsuits both(in my eyes) are fails. Both because of fabric choice and size choice. I forgot to account for my bottom half. 😉 I saw you pin this pattern the other day and loved it! I’m especially in love with the two piece version(would make an adorable bra).

  • I live 100ms from the beach, the weathers hotting up and I have about 100ms of knicker elastic in my cupboard that I got for $5 at an auction. I NEED to sew some bathers! lucy_legget(at)hotmail(dot)com

  • I tried to once but I forgot to put in the cups so it landed up being see-through…it was really embarrassing! But my friends and I just laugh at it now 🙂

  • jaimejo(at)gmail(dot)com
I attempted a swimsuit once, but only made the top. I still wear it from time to time when I mow the lawn. I didn’t have enough experience at that time with working with knits. It was a fail 😉

  • HELLO MAMACITA! I’ve been jonesing for this pattern ever since I saw Ohhh Lulu’s swimsuit make this summer. I WANTS IT. And that floral is amazing – I’ve had a hell of a time finding good patterns in swimsuit material. So I would happily add this little number to my handmade swimsuit collection – it would make the perfect suit for my tropical vacay this winter….

  • Oh my! I’ve never sewn a swimsuit in my life but for that pattern and that fabric I’d be on it like a dog on a bone. What a splendid giveaway…thank you.

  • I’ve started to sew a swimsuit and never finished it. I meant to pick it up and finish it this past summer, but hasn’t quite made time for it. 😉 Thanks!

  • I’ve been trying to draft a swimsuit, but haven’t gotten up the courage to cut up the actual fabric.
    sarah(.)eirich(@)gmail(.)com

  • I have never sewn my own swim suit, but I should definitely give it a try since I usually have trouble finding one that fits in the body and the bust.

  • ooooh i LOVE that suit! i’ve sewn a lot, but have never sewn my own suit! i’m not in the southern hemisphere, but i might be able to knock that out by next summer here…i have the fabric, the notions and now i need the pattern and the nerve!

  • I tried sewing BurdaStyle’s Alison swimsuit, but the fit didn’t work out quite right. Your swimsuits make me want to try again, though, because all of them look great. Well done! Great giveaway!

  • Oh please please please can I win this pattern? I’ve never sewn a swimsuit and I admit that if I won this, I’d probably make lingerie. What can I say? 🙂

  • I’ve never sewn my own swimsuit before and I’ve been meaning too since it’s hard to find stuff in my size. I’d love to try with this pattern!

  • No I haven’t made a swimsuit although I recently made an underwear set. If I won this I would certainly go because that fabric and pattern is to die for!

  • Okay, that pattern and material are darling! I’d love to whip up a suit from them! I made my first bathing suit this summer. I created the pattern from an existing suit, then altered it to a single strap, and added a million ruffles. I love the way it turned out and can’t wait to make another!

  • I have never sewn a swimsuit but I would love to try, maybe make a bikini bottom first. I would love the pattern to make lingerie though.

  • I made a swimsuit once. At the time my lack of sewing ability, knowledge of materials and larger 50inch bottom caused me some issues. I had no idea about grading, and just had a go, and did not know what stitch to use. The result: the swimsuit i had lovingly made took one look at the swimming pool, turned see trough and ripped at the seam. Luckily I was amongst friends and we laughed it off. I have since lost many inches (37inch hip) and my sewing ability increased…but I have never made another swimsuit. Maybe it is time? 🙂

  • I have not sewn my own swimsuit before–I really wanted to this summer, but didn’t get a chance. I’m thinking about taking an aquatic fitness class over the winter, so maybe now would be a good time to try.

  • I love this! I’ve been looking for a swimsuit pattern that isn’t too itsy bitsy, but still sexy! I’m long waisted, so that definately makes a difference in a one piece, but is also one of the reasons I started sewing.

  • I would really enjoy making a made-to-measure swimsuit for myself. I recently made a bra and with some adjustments my next one will fit like a dream! I have been learning so much from the blogs I have stumbled upon lately and sewing up a storm. I have just got the great news that my cancer is in Remission, my energy is still low however from my recent heart attack, by-pass as well as Stent procedure. The docs say one more Stent and I should be good as new…so I believe my new-to-me body deserves some super new lingerie /swimsuit to show it off in!
Love your site and promise to visit often. OhhhLulu is also on my favorite list xo

  • Hope I’m not too late! I sewed two small swimsuits for my son – a boy leg one(later) and the normal speedo (budgie smugglers they call them here). This was from pure necessity as he suddenly got too small and wanted to swim so I cut it off a pattern off his old ones and added a bit all round. Not perfect and a bit asymmetric but he didn’t notice. He was thrilled to have me make them. And when uni finishes I have your sew a long ready to make mine. (just in time for summer) I mean I have standards a little higher than my son then so I’ll have to take it slow so either way I am looking forward to your tutorial help.
I love OhhhLulu she makes beautiful things. I can’t believe she makes it all! so hope it’s me!!

  • I have been working on my own swimsuit, however I hate water (and can’t swim) so I’m avoiding finishing it. My boyfriend wants me to finish it asap so we can go swimming together. Not going to happen. 🙂
