Wow, it’s crazy to think about how the first Refashioners was 4 years ago. I’m so glad that Portia brought it back again this year because I really love this challenge, because that’s what it is for me – a challenge. It forces me to think outside the box and create a garment with limited resources. And since I chose to do a secret trade with another blogger I didn’t have any idea what I was going to work with.
Oh, and did you hear? You can participate, too, and even maybe win a seriously incredible prize pack.
I traded thrift store shirts with Heather Lou (see what she made here). I gave her a shirt that definitely forced her to get creative. *evil laugh*
So check out BOTH my refashions over at Makery and read how to make them yourself.
Have you been keeping up with the Refashioners lately? If you’re late in the game the Refashioners is a sewing challenge hosted by the lovely Portia. She generously spends money out of her own pocket scouring thrift shops and sending surprise packages to bloggers in the UK and the US containing some garment or fabric item that we have to then turn into something cool and wearable.
So far we’ve seen bloggers create trendy tops, a high fashion coat, maternity wear, a leather skirt, a vintage inspired shrug, mustard shorty shorts and so much more!
Last year I got an oversized shirt and skirt set and I managed to get two projects out of it. This year I got something a little different…
Check out my modified Scout Tee made from – get this – pillowcases! I even included pics for how I adapted the pattern.
This is probably the most creative challenge I’ve seen in the sewing blogosphere and I’m so glad Portia decided to ask me (again!) to participate. It’s truly inspiring to see what everyone creates. Thanks Portia!
My second shirt design for The Refashioners is up! Hop over to Portia’s blog to take a look and you can even download the free pattern PDF version of the shirt I made!
Guess what!? I was lucky enough to be invited by the lovely Miss P to take part in “The Refashioners” (don’t you love that logo? so fun!).
About a month ago I, along with a group of awesome sewing bloggers, received a surprise package in the mail. Portia sent us all thrifted items of clothing and asked us all to re-fashion what we had into something new, stylish and wearable.
What I loved about making this shirt was that I felt as though I had made a completely new garment but because I kept part of the original design, it didn’t take me nearly as long to make as creating something from scratch. I saved time and headaches by focusing on parts of a design that really interested me while the boring parts like making buttonholes and adding interfacing was already done for me. Perfect for the lazy sewer!
I was lucky to have enough fabric in my surprise outfit to make two projects! The first one is up today on Portia’s blog. Go check it out! The next one will come later and will include a free pattern to download!! And in the next coming days she will be posting projects from other bloggers including Zoe from So Zo…, Casey’s Elegant Musings, Tilly and the Buttons, and Karen from Did You Make That?
Exciting!!! I can’t wait to see what everyone else made!
